Larimar is a rare blue variety of pectolite born from a volcano and found in the sea. Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic. It was first discovered in 1916, but it was not until 1974 that it was rediscovered and named. It was found by Miguel Mendez and Norman Rilling. The name of this crystal, "Lari," comes from Miguel's child Larissa's name, and "Mar" is the Spanish word for sea. A sea pattern is sought in Larimar.
